This Mom Powerlifter Wants to Show Little Girls They Can Be Strong

Angela Tims is a powerlifter, a mother, and an absolute badass. She goes by @theironmomma on Instagram, where she posts pics of her juggling life as a new mom and her intense strength training schedule like a pro. The fit mom's secret for staying motivated is pretty straightforward: She wants to show other women how strong and capable they really are. For Tims, that means raising her little one and deadlifting 200+ pounds at the gym, all while remaining body positive and confident. Tims tries to lead by example—and a heartwarming story at the gym recently reminded her of what she does it all for.

"Tonight at the gym, one of the gym members who owns our Strongman equipment brought his daughter in," Tims wrote in a recent Instagram post. The mom went on to explain that she was completing a lifting set when the 4- or 5-year-old girl turned to her and said, "YOU'RE STRONG! COOL!" The moment stuck with Tims ever since.

"That's one of the reasons I love being a female lifter," Tims said. "Knowing that little girls see and watch what I do so closely makes me so happy and thankful that I'm leading by example. Her three words mean the world to me and left me feeling motivated, proud, and unstoppable."

The little girl's words were simple, but they sent Tims a major message of encouragement. And we're sure deadlifting 200+ pounds seems a little bit easier when you know you have an enthusiastic 4- or 5-year-old cheering you on.
