Irresistible mother-daughter pairing Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds died nearly two weeks ago, passing away just one day apart. And according to their death certificates, obtained by TMZ, Fisher and Reynolds' causes of death are pretty much what was reported at the time.
Star Wars star Fisher died at the age of 60 after reportedly suffering a heart attack on a plane from London to Los Angeles. Her death certificate confirms that she died of "cardiac arrest." The certificate also says "deferred," meaning that the immediate cause of her heart attack remains unknown. Accordingly, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will have to do more testing, including a toxicology report to determine if any possible drugs in her system could have contributed to the attack. They will then revise their conclusions.
Reynolds died age 84 on Dec. 28, one day after her daughter. Her death certificate lists intracerebral hemorrhage, a common cause of stroke, as her cause of death. Specifically, one of her blood vessels ruptured, which led to fatal bleeding in her brain. The report cites hypertension as the underlying cause of the hemorrhage. Todd Fisher, Debbie's son and Carrie's brother, suggested that her death was caused by a broken heart when he said it seemed as though Fisher "wanted to be with Carrie."
The revelation of their causes of death comes after Fisher and Reynolds' joint funeral, held last week. At the memorial, Fisher's Prozac pill-shaped urn made its debut. The urn recognizes Fisher's decades of activism raising awareness about mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder.
While our time with the incomparable Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds may be over in life, their incandescent, if challenging, bond is on display in the documentary Bright Lights. The bittersweet HBO film all about their unique relationship was released last week.
