Makeup artists are notoriously picky about the products they use, and rightly so. After all, when you have access to the fanciest, most expensive products in the world—and you're responsible for the most beautiful, famous faces—why would you settle for anything less than the absolute best? So when we kept hearing the name of the same drugstore mascara repeated over and over by some of the biggest names in the business, all professing their undying love for it, we knew it had to be legit.

That mascara? None other than L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black.

If you're looking for major, Kardashian-style lashes, you can't do better than this, since it's the mascara favored by Kardashian go-to makeup artists Mario Dedivanovic and Ariel Tejada. "It's probably the darkest black mascara I've used, which is very hard to find in other mascaras," says Tejada. "It provides clump-free, intensely thick-looking lashes, and it happens to be very affordable." (Not that the last part is necessarily something the Kardashians need to worry about, but it's good for the rest of us.)

Makeup artist Mary Phillips, who not only works with Khloe Kardashian but also regularly helps prep Chrissy Teigen and Jennifer Lopez for the red carpet, is also fan of the product. "This one goes on smoothly and is easy to build without getting clumpy or dry, so you can really hoist the lashes up," she says. Phillips adds that while some mascaras can be a little too va-va-voom for your 10 a.m. meeting or too wimpy for a girls' night out, this one's got your back no matter what the clock reads. "There are some mascaras that are more day versus night, but because of its building ability, it channels both times of the day."

Inky, voluminous, makeup-artist-approved mascara that you can pick up for less than $8 at your nearest drugstore? That's the dream, people.
