Australian fitness trainer Emily Skye often uses her Instagram feed to share workout tips and fabulous selfies, but this week, she also used it to teach her followers an important lesson about the power of perception. In an effort to remind fans that a whole lot more goes into a gorgeous image than we may realize, Skye shared a set of side-by-side selfies. In the first picture, Skye's abs are barely visible, and her stomach looks different than in her usual 'Gram photos. In the second picture, however, her abs take center stage. Though the images look very different, they were taken just three seconds apart.

"Your posture, angles, posing, and lighting makes a big difference!" Skye wrote in the post's caption. "The left [picture] is with my tummy pushed out—the right is with my tummy flexed." Skye went on to point out that glossy, aspirational images on social media only show one side of the story—no matter how fit the person in the picture may be. "Next time you look at a photo of someone who looks 'perfect' online or in a magazine remind yourself that the person in the photo doesn't walk around looking like that! They're posed, in their best angles with a tight or flexed tummy in 'good' lighting...We're all just imperfect humans."

Skye concludes the post by imploring her followers to avoid comparing themselves to others. After all, so much of what we see on our social media feeds are highlight reels. Thanks for the reminder, Emily! Check out the full post below, as well as a previous video she posted on the topic.
